In the Donor Register you record whether you want to donate organs and tissues after your passing. The completing of your choice can be done online or by requesting a form from the Donor Register. What happens if you don't make a choice? Then you will be registered in the Donor Register with 'no objection'. Which means that you are a donor.

You can find out here which option suits you best. You can always change your choice.

What is organ donation?

If you pass away, you can donate an organ or tissue to someone, whose organ or tissue does not function (properly) anymore. Sometimes multiple organs from one donor can be used for different people.

For example, the heart, two kidneys and skin tissue.

What are the choices?

How does organ donation work?

Organ donation is only possible if you die in a hospital. A doctor will determine death. They follow rules and agreements for this. The reason for death determines how the donation will go. And which organs are suitable for organ donation. The doctor will discuss all of this in detail.

Do you die in hospital? And are the organs suitable? Then the person who arranges everything around the donation will come to the hospital. For example, they will arrange for the person who receives an organ to come to the hospital quickly.

The doctors will remove the donor organ from your body and give it to someone who needs it. Your body will then be returned to your family as soon as possible.

Organ donation and my faith
