It is possible that an organ or tissue that is removed for transplantation may not be suitable after all. That organ or tissue can then be used for scientific research. This type of research adds to our knowledge of transplants.
Notification of objection
If you do want to be a donor but do not want your organs or tissues to be used for research relating to transplants, you can record your objection. There are two ways of doing that:
- Register an objection to use for scientific research using your DigiD
- Fill in and return a ‘Notification of objection to scientific research’ form
Note: research that focuses on organ transplantation is not the same as leaving your body to science. If you want to leave your body to science, you can contact the anatomical institute of a university.
Withdrawing an objection
If you are registered as a donor and you have previously given notification of an objection to use for scientific research but would now like to withdraw that objection, there are two ways of doing so:
